What are the duties of a psychologist at BPS?
The main task of the BPS is the appraisal and advice of advice seekers with regard to professional issues. However, there is also a direct advice to specialists if the work with a person seeking advice or a person seeking advice is difficult or further steps are to be discussed.
The BPS is also involved in the selection of personnel for the BA and subsequently takes on tasks for the qualification of BA employees within the framework of trainer activities. Psychologists with a corresponding additional qualification support executives of the BA through coaching.
To get to know the BPS and its tasks better, you can do an internship at the BPS of an employment agency. In order to apply for this, you must have a bachelor's degree or have passed the undergraduate exam in psychology.
You should have a background in Psychological Diagnostics, Clinical Psychology and Occupational, Operational and Organizational Psychology. The internship can last up to 3 months. Prerequisite for employment as a psychologist at the BPS is a university degree in psychology completed in the Federal Republic of Germany with a master's degree or with the final diploma examination or a university degree in psychology recognized as equivalent in accordance with § 20 of the Higher Education Framework Act. Important for the work in the professional psychology service of the Federal Employment Agency are profound knowledge in:
Psychological diagnostics in the field of occupational psychology. In addition to the sound knowledge of the individual procedures, applicants must also be aware of the limits of the usability of psychological testing procedures.
Clinical psychology (including basic knowledge of common therapeutic methods)
Occupational, organizational and economic psychology (among others problems of unemployment, professional knowledge, methods of personnel selection)
Psychological counseling

After analyzing the application documents, we invite the applicants who successfully completed this stage to a psychological discussion in the next step. Applicants who were re-shortlisted after the discussion will participate in an Assessment Center that simulates typical elements of the case work of an agency psychologist. Here, the applicants of a selection committee are presented.
In the first 9 months, we offer you a training program that enables you to perform the duties of a psychologist in an agency for work independently and on your own responsibility. Knowledge content and competencies are imparted that specifically require you to work in the BPS and that supplement your previous experience gained from studies and possibly previous activities.
The training is divided into:
3 consecutive practical phases in different BPS teams under expert guidance of an experienced psychologist or an experienced psychologist
Internships in various areas of the BA (in particular job placement and vocational guidance as well as in various vocational training institutions).
3 2-week seminar blocks each are integrated into the practical phases.
During the induction program, you will be employed for a fixed term of 12 months and receive a monthly fixed salary (classification into level of activity II, collective agreement of the Federal Employment Agency). Following a successfully completed induction program, the acquisition is intended for permanent employment.
The BA has a structured personnel development system: your individual development is supported according to your wishes, suitability, performance and ability. For example, you can further develop your skills as a subject matter expert or become a leading expert.
The professional psychology service of the BA basically offers the opportunity to work part-time.
